The glass panels now being placed on the exterior of the new 10-story Memorial Hospital patient tower are not merely windows. They are the curtain wall system that will enclose the entire building and allow for the interior work to begin this fall and winter.
The very first panels started to go up a little over a week ago along the Michigan Street side of the building, and work is progressing quickly!
We caught up with Jason Cipowski, Senior Project Manager at The Walsh Group, for some details about the curtain wall system:
🔹 It’s an interlocking, panelized system for faster installation.
🔹 About 1,400 glass panels will cover the tower’s exterior with some weighing over 1,000 pounds.
🔹 The panels have high-strength, double pane glazing locked into an aluminum frame with thermal breaks for energy efficiency and tinting for comfort and appearance.
Thanks to Walsh Construction for the behind-the-scenes look and insights into this incredible installation!
