Demonstrating its long-standing and unwavering commitment to the South Bend community, Beacon Health System will soon break ground on the new 10-story patient bed tower at Memorial Hospital. The tower will transform and reshape how the hospital provides patient care and redefine the skyline of downtown South Bend.

The groundbreaking is slated for Oct. 18.

While improving the experiences of patients, families, as well as the medical and healthcare teams, this once-in-a-generation expansion and renovation project at Memorial Hospital will also help meet the growing healthcare needs of our community for decades to come.

With expanded capacity and technologically advanced features, the $232 million patient tower will redefine and in some cases expand the space and facilities available for adult critical care, adult acute care and ICU.

Crews at this time are working on several projects to prepare for tower construction, including renovations on the sixth floor and energy center updates. Work also continues on the new inpatient pharmacy. Traffic patterns around the hospital’s main entrance changed this summer due to work to expand the Energy Center. Increased heating and cooling capacity will be needed to support the new Memorial Hospital patient bed tower.
